We then set up an obstacle course for users to test out the luggage. For this article, we combined our categorical expertise with feedback from Amazon reviewers to choose the best luggage on Amazon. Here are some of the characteristics we take into consideration:

✔️ Size and weight: We weigh each piece of empty luggage to validate that the weight listed online is correct; we’ve found the listed specs are not always accurate. If the luggage is considered “carry-on” size, we place it into a 22 x 14 x 9-inch area to ensure it complies with TSA regulations.

• If your carry-on baggage exceeds the allowed allowance, an additional fee will be charged for it. (please check the fees for excess of the allowed limit for hand luggage)

In addition, as part of the ticket price, you can take one of the following items with you as hand luggage:

• women’s handbag or men’s bag
• laptop (max. 2 kg, dimensions 40 cm x 35 cm x 12 cm)
• umbrella
• small camera
• binoculars
• for traveling with children – meals and foldable pram or stroller

Persons with disabilities may take the following items with them when traveling:

• wheelchair (loaded into the luggage compartment before boarding and returned to the passenger after landing)
• crutches
• other medical equipment for personal use

Carrying liquids in hand baggage

On flights departing from Europe, you can only take a limited amount of liquids on board. The list of liquid substances includes, among others:

• perfume,
• gels (e.g. for hair, baths),
• pastes,
• liquid cosmetics (lip gloss, foundation, mascara),
• creams,
• conditioners and olives,
• sprays,
• pressurized liquids (e.g. shaving gels, deodorants),
• water and other drinks,
• soups,
• syrups,
• other substances of similar consistency.

Containers of liquids and similar products may have a capacity of up to 100 ml each (maximum capacity is indicated on the label on the packaging). All containers with liquids must be placed in a plastic bag with a capacity of no more than 1 liter.

• ALLOWED:
• liquids in containers up to 100 ml, packed in a transparent opening/closing single bag with a capacity up to 1 liter;
• dietary foods and medicines, including baby food for travel;
• liquids purchased from duty-free shops of any airport or airline, provided that they are packaged in a bag according to rule:

The passenger must not open the package before arriving at the destination airport, unless required to do so by security personnel.

If the passenger goes on an onward journey, he must inform the security control persons about this so that the purchased liquid after the control is repackaged in a new bag. When shopping in duty-free shops, the package must not show signs of opening or tearing, and it must contain proof of purchase.

Despite these changes, airport security personnel still have the right to deny a passenger a flight with a liquid that is questionable from a safety point of view. All other liquids, aerosols and gels must be checked in as checked baggage.

2. Checked baggage

Remember:

• The dimensions of one piece of baggage cannot exceed 158 cm (height + width + depth).
• Children under 2 years old traveling without an allocated seat are entitled to one piece of checked baggage up to 23 kg (with the sum of three dimensions up to 158 cm), regardless of the class of service (except for tickets at the fare without baggage).

Miles & More members are entitled to extra baggage within the free limit. Baggage weight depends on travel class (see table below for details). Baggage that exceeds the free baggage allowance (weight, number of pieces or dimensions) will be charged an excess baggage fee. Check out our excess baggage fees.

Checked baggage is prohibited:

• valuables, including money,
• precious metals,
• jewelry,
• commercial documents and samples, passports,
• identification documents and other securities,
• electronic devices and optical instruments (e. g. computers, laptops, cameras, mobile phones, cameras with accessories, spectacles)
• drugs,
• keys, etc.,
• items which, due to their characteristics and properties, including type, weight, size or perishable state, fragility and fragility, tendency to breakage or special sensitivity, are unsuitable for transport, dangerous or harmful items that may endanger the aircraft, people or equipment on board the aircraft.

If, despite the prohibition, the passenger places in the baggage items that are prohibited to be carried in it, the responsibility for their transportation lies with the passenger.

Special Declaration of Value

The law governing an air carrier’s liability for damage in the carriage of baggage provides for liability limited to a limit of 1288 SDR. The passenger can take advantage of the increased limit of the carrier’s liability for the safety of baggage by submitting a special declaration and making the appropriate payment at the airport. When making a declaration, the declared value of the baggage must not exceed the amount of 2 x 1288 SDR, and the passenger must fill out the appropriate form, as well as receive confirmation of its acceptance after payment.
