Ragnarök. I’ve played 12 hours and can’t help but talk about the problems – PlayStation on DTF

There is a mark of almost 12 hours on my save, of course, I haven’t finished the game yet, but I’m in a hurry to share my impressions because they are quite mixed.
As if the developers took all the problems of the first part and some relishes are just perfect, what “they repeated it and, so as not to be bored, they threw in new ones. Here I will mainly talk about the problems of the game, which I really like. I just don’t think that journalists and reviewers will not pay much attention to what I will describe here

But I’ll start with praise. One of the most (for me) big problems of God Of War 2018 is the long overclocking of the combat system. You see – in that game, Kratos’ combat moves for the first hours were VERY limited and the fights become beautiful, intense and varied only after the opening of the moves. And for this very discovery – it takes not that little time. In Ragnarok – experiences are poured from the heart and, accordingly – new movements open up very quickly, which in a couple of hours allows the combat to open up. And it’s great! Yes, Kratos is still heavy and you will have to get used to his movements quite close to the camera (at least I had to) , but then you start to feel confident and understand what kind of blow and where to use it and stop getting hit in the face when you again decide to charge a strong blow at close range to fast enemies (well, or if you are the same untrained like me – even after 12 hours you will sometimes do such garbage) .
What other problem did the last part have? Enemies. Boring bestiary. And what did they do in this one? Made mobs… *drumroll* – boring too! The first 5 hours – bums, dead bums and the most boring – reptiles from shit. Just some brown lizardmen. This. So. Tasteless . And what else? Light elves are even more or less, but they also do not shine with design, and then dark elves appear – from the last part. I’ve already seen them! Draugi – also from the last part. Blue draugs – there too. At least the appearance of another troll was beaten quite funny.
Almost all enemies look like this for several hours.
BTW ABOUT BOSSES! Who do we have here in 12 hours? A bear, a colored crocodile, a centaur and a light elf, but more than usual. Well, the Valkyrie was there, literally in the last minutes. Plus or minus everything. This is downright bad. What about originality? What’s with the creative streak? Maybe it will get better, but so far – only one boss has been great.
And that one is from the beginning of the game.

But after all, rethinking took for the most part – the staging and the general tone of the story. Here everything is just as ambiguous in my eyes. Some moments are really a new level and hit right on target. Even the opening scene already hit me hard. Yes, even the rescue quest in the gnome world – it ends with a very good and ambiguous phrase from Kratos – in the spirit of what was in the last part. But all this is adjacent to some teenage motives.
On the one hand – okay, the focus has shifted from Kratos to his son. It is logical that then more teenage topics will be raised. But this is very conflicting with the first part and the image of the modern God of War in general. No, there is no creep in the game (at the time of 12 hours) – the heroes are alive, they can all be understood, especially since the scriptwriter gave them quite worthy motives for logical and mental opposition to each other, but this does not negate the fact that the landmark rethinking of the series seemed to have shifted dramatically.
And personally, I don’t really like it.
Last, but most important for me – locations and pace. Remember how many cursed the caves from the first part? What were they boring and identical and stuffy? So – how do you like MORE CAVES ? Huh? I’m so tired of these stone walls in 12 hours. They especially finished me off at one moment when you can come for a walk in a rather beautiful desert. Yes, initially it is covered with a sandstorm, but when you remove it, the views there are awesome. That’s just the main part of the gameplay in this location where? In a cave! But I finally burned out in the place where we had to run, set fire to torches and look for 4 beehives. It’s easy to get lost there, the location is poor in terms of visuals, and the task seems to have come from an MMO – go find 4 spawners of lizards and destroy them, adventurer. What is it? Is this a quest?
Well, as it were – okay, now you want to add these caves – but they are terribly stretched! This is generally (for 12 hours of playing, I remind you.
THIS IS NOT THE WHOLE GAME) – the biggest problem of the game is not understanding the pace. Things that are nice, like watering down gameplay, drag on for hours. It’s so important to serve different things in the game at the right pace. And it’s like it doesn’t exist at all. Not everywhere, but where the moments are too long – it immediately irritates, because the game as a whole is good and therefore such a miscalculation is even more striking. Yes, I didn’t even notice how I played 12 hours, but I immediately noticed how several of these hours passed in annoyance at the length of any moment.
The character of Agrboda himself is not annoying. She is lively and interesting. But the location associated with it is just awful. I’m just tired there…
Maybe later you will wait for full-fledged reviews from people who have already completely completed the game. I am a simple player and share my impressions at the moment. I would advise the game only to people who really liked part of 2018 and they want to follow not only Kratos, but the development of all the characters and this world.
In general – somehow the minuses of the first part were overshadowed by everything else. And here – they are too conspicuous. But they don’t negate the strengths of the game at all – Kratos is still great, the combat system is much better, the story is intriguing and told by awesome actors, the world doesn’t really waste your time looking for optional content and resources – everything is close by. But the disadvantages I have listed just prevent the game from being a perfect continuation, and this is a little sad.

Almost 20 years ago Santa Monica Studio, a little-known company at that time, set an incredibly high bar both for itself and for the entire gaming industry as a whole.
The action-adventure God of War, released on PlayStation 2 in 2005, garnered more than a dozen Game of the Year awards and sold millions of copies worldwide, building a huge fan base to launch an entire franchise.
The game had an exciting storyline with immersion in ancient Greek mythology, thoughtful gameplay with large-scale brutal battles, platforming and quest elements, and even erotic mini-games. An explosive cocktail of these carefully balanced ingredients literally blew the roof off gamers around the world. Critics wrote that “God of War” makes you rethink why people even play video games, and also complained about the constant craving for the game, comparing it to drug addiction.
Since the 2018 reboot of the series, God of War has changed significantly, but the level of rave reviews has remained at the same high level. The five-year-old game received an incredible 94 out of 100 on Metacritic (the site is blocked in Russia), and now the new Ragnarok, released on the PS4 and PS5 consoles, has earned exactly the same amount.

The guys from Sony Santa Monica skillfully picked up and connected those plot threads that remained hanging after the release of the original. Therefore, all possible shortcomings in the form of a similar combat model, as well as a character leveling system, quickly fade against the backdrop of bright, well-thought-out heroes, as well as dizzying special effects and graphics, writes Game Informer.
