TV cabinet sizing tips

Selection of the size and materials of the TV cabinet is determined by factors such as the area of ​​the room, the diagonal and type of TV (flat panel or bulky projection), viewing position (behind the table, from the sofa, armchair). A convenient location will determine how comfortable it will be to watch your favorite programs, series or films: after all, an incorrect anatomical position of the body in just 2 hours of screen time can lead to clamps, muscle stiffness, fatigue and headaches. How to best place your TV

There is a universal formula that will allow you to place your TV optimally and avoid unnecessary strain on your back, neck and eyes while watching. The center of the screen should be at the eye level of the seated viewer, plus or minus 10-15 centimeters in any direction. Of course, it is impossible to calculate specific measurements down to a centimeter – but this is not required: especially if you plan to watch TV not alone, but with the whole family and even with children, and not only sitting, but also lying on the couch

TV stand, dimensions and its configuration directly depend on the size of the equipment itself. It is obvious that in a small room it is inappropriate to place a huge TV on half the wall: you simply do not have enough length of the room for comfortable viewing. How far away from the viewer should the screen be? It is most convenient to watch a movie or a program if the distance to the image is related to the size of the screen itself.

• If there is between 110 and 230 cm between your viewing position and the TV screen, then you should not choose a TV with a diagonal larger than 30″. Accordingly, the cabinet for such a small screen can be of the minimum size, exactly for this gadget.
• Distance of 1.6-3.2 meters from the screen allows you to choose a diagonal of 42″.
• It makes sense to buy a 50″ TV if you have a space of 1.9-3.8 meters from it to the sofa.
• A huge 60″ screen will be comfortable to watch only if you sit at a distance of 2.3-4.6 meters from it.

How to choose the size of the TV cabinet

The height of the floor and hanging TV cabinets have a similar calculation formula. Whatever the configuration and model of your furniture, the most important thing is to successfully position the screen in relation to the level of view. If the display is too low or high, then the image will glare, and you will experience discomfort in the body.

TV stand height

The height of the floor stand can be easily calculated using the formula:
h viewing area – (2/3 h TV screen) – h TV legs.

Viewing height is the level of your eyes when you are sitting on a sofa or chair in front of the TV. This parameter can be taken as an approximate one, so that it is convenient for other family members or guests, and children (whose gaze level will naturally be lower) to look at the screen, and even from a lying position.

TV stand height

Hanging cabinet attached to the wall and looks like it is suspended in the air. This design looks lighter, does not weigh down the interior, so it is great for small spaces. In addition to style, the advantage of hanging furniture is its practicality: cleaning is easier and faster with it, since there are no legs that would interfere with access.

The calculation formula will be the same as for floor furniture. The difference lies in how roomy the drawers and shelves can be made: if you use the entire height with the dimensions of the cabinet to the floor, then the hanging furniture will always be smaller in volume.

What is the height of furniture for TV

The most common parameters of a floor cabinet are 25-40 cm. This height is optimal for most rooms and modern models of television equipment. If it doesn’t seem enough for you, you can use a bracket or hanging TV stand.

Plasma TV is watched from a great distance, so the accuracy of the calculation in the dimensions of the pedestal under it is not required. As a rule, the height of furniture for plasma is about 40-55 cm.

Recommendations for choosing furniture for TV equipment

What dimensions should be for a TV stand for your apartment, only you determine. If it is important for you to use furniture with the widest possible functions, then pay attention to models with additional storage spaces, drawers, shelves. This will allow you to place in the cabinet not only things related to the movie viewing area. Thanks to this, you can minimize the amount of other furniture in the room and unload the space without losing functionality.

In a small room, only compact cabinets are appropriate. In length, they can only be a few centimeters longer than the length of your TV display, and in addition to their main function (equipment stands), they have only a couple of slots for auxiliary gadgets (video player, speakers, game console) and discs. In a small room, a corner cabinet diagonally from the seating area will allow you to rationally use the space.

If the area of ​​the living room or bedroom allows, you can choose a long chest of drawers. Its advantage lies in the spacious storage area. Unlike traditional walls, such a cabinet allows you to fix the TV shelf at the height that is convenient for you. And the configuration with only the lower block of storage places does not limit the choice of a TV with any diagonal, since nothing interferes with the technique in height.
