How to Sell My Laptop for The Most Cash Back
Clean your laptop, remove old screen protectors, and locate the original packaging and accessories like the charger.
Selling a clean, undamaged laptop with all its accessories, including the box, will fetch a higher price than just the laptop itself.
Sell Laptop Online vs. In-Store
Where Can I Sell My Laptop Online?
You can sell your laptop on an online marketplace such as eBay or Facebook. You will have to consider shipping costs, platform fees, and customer commitment/trustworthiness there.
Another option is using a buyback service to receive money for your old laptop. A buyback service allows customers to sell their used electronic devices to a third party. One of the best and most popular is Gizmogo. They provide a user-friendly platform, free shipping, quick reimbursement, and a hassle-free process.
Where Can I Sell My Laptop Near Me?
Some online marketplaces, such as Craigslist, allow you to locate a buyer in your area. Additionally, sometimes electronics retailers will buy your laptop.
Each option has its benefits and drawbacks. Ultimately, the best option for you will depend on your needs and preferences.
Reviews
“Quick Refund for Surface Pro. I had a Microsoft Surface Pro that I hadn’t been using in a while and wondered if I could get anything for it. After a quick search I came across Gizmodo online. I searched and quickly found out I could get money for it by just sending it in. They sent me a prepaid FedEx label, I sent it off and within days they contacted me that it was inspected and my money would arrive in days.”

“This website is very easy to use and convenient. I recycled my idle computer here. I just need to send the limited electronic products to their factory, and I don’t need to pay the logistics freight. Within three days of receiving the computer, customer service finished testing my computer and gave me a quote. Their company’s WeChat customer service attitude is also very good.”

“Easy process and fair values! I’ve had two experiences selling devices to them and both have gone great. Super easy and convenient process to get an offer and send the devices in and I got my payout within like a day or two of it being received by them. I recommend them to everyone, they always offer the best for selling or buying. ”

Sell My Laptop FAQs
I don’t see my device on your list; how can I place my order?
If your device is not listed, place your order as an Unknown Device. Please review our list of accepted electronics to ensure your device falls into one of the classifications. Following our fee-free shipping, we will evaluate your device and send you a quote. If you choose not to sell, your device will be returned to you free of charge!
Do you accept old and damaged devices?
Yes! We accept a vast amount of different electronic devices regardless of condition. To find out how much your damaged device is worth, locate your device on our website, select your model, and indicate the condition to receive an instant quote. If it has any value, we will compensate you accordingly. Otherwise, we would recycle it responsibly for you.
You evaluated my device, and the payment amount differs from the quote I received when I first placed my order; what happened?
There are a few reasons why the quoted payment can change following our evaluation:

You did not accurately select the condition of the device (most common).

The device has defects that are not indicated on your order.

My laptop isn’t on your list; how can I determine its worth?
If you don’t see your device on our list, email us at [email protected] for your free quote. Include the device brand, model, and serial number in your message. We will have our technician deliver an estimate within 24 hours.
Can I sell a lost or stolen device?
No, we cannot accept a stolen device. When we receive a device reported as lost or stolen, you will not receive compensation. We will turn it over to the police immediately. If this is a mistake and the device is yours, please get in touch with your mobile carrier and ensure everything is okay before selling it.
How many devices can I sell?
As many as your heart desires. We would love to take them all!
How long will my quote be valid?
Your quote is good for 15 days, but it’s always best to take a good offer as soon as possible. The final price, however, is up to the technical evaluation. If you choose not to accept our quote, we will ship your device back to you at no cost.
How do we rate aesthetics?
When getting a quote for your item, we’ll ask you to select the relevant condition (Excellent, Good, Poor, or Faulty). To see how much you can get for your broken device, type the name and model of your device into the search bar, and select the ‘broken’ condition on the comparison table.

How do I reset my laptop?
To reset your laptop, you can access the “Reset this PC” tool. You can do this by typing “Reset this PC” into the search box in the Start menu. Follow the on-screen instructions, select a full reset and wait for the reset to finish. Once the reset is complete, you must set up Windows again. This will involve selecting a language, entering a product key, and setting up a user account.
Can I sell a broken laptop?
Yes! While broken or damaged laptops don’t sell for as much as working laptops, many retailers will make a reasonable offer for your device.
How much is my laptop worth?
That depends on the laptop. Laptops have a variety of manufacturers and specifications. The better the specifications, such as more memory, larger screen, large storage space, faster processor, etc., will yield a higher price point.

Top Places to Trade in Your Laptop for Cash or Credit
Here are the best sites and apps where you can sell any laptop, no matter what brand or model it is. On these platforms, you can also sell other gadgets like phones, desktops, tablets, cameras and more.
1. Amazon Trade-In
If you are an Amazon shopper like me and don’t mind trading your used laptop for Amazon gift cards, Amazon Trade-In program is a great option.
The program lets you trade in not only laptops, but also Amazon Devices, electronics, books, video games and more.
To submit a trade-in:
Go to the Trade-In Store and look for eligible items. Once you find your item, add it to your trade-in submission, answer a few questions (like what condition it is in) and enter the address you’re going to ship it from.
Confirm your Trade-In and print the prepaid UPS shipping label. Then ship your item by the indicated date.
Once they receive your item and approve it, they’ll send you an Amazon gift card (the equivalent of the cash amount for your device).
Use your gift card to buy whatever you want on Amazon!
2. Best Buy Trade-In
Best Buy Trade-In offers a convenient way to trade your old electronics for Best Buy gift cards.
You can either go to a local store to trade or you can do it online.
Advertisements
If you do decide to do it online, Best Buy gives you a prepaid label for shipping your device to them.
Now, I did a few tests on the site to see how much they offered for various items and to be honest, I was not impressed at all. I got an offer for a Microsoft Surface Pro in good condition for $50. That’s not good! But then again, when it comes to selling used electronics, you don’t usually get near anywhere what you think your item is worth.
Best Places to Sell Laptop Near Me
Don’t like the idea of shipping your laptop to a company you don’t know or a person you never met?
No problem. There are a few great places where you can sell your laptop for cash in person.
3. Offer Up (former LetGo)
Offer Up is basically a local classified app. Sort of like Craigslist but just for buying and selling. This is a great app that lets you sell anything by snapping a picture and posting an ad. And yes, you can sell to local buyers which is great if you need money fast.
Here’s how it works:
Take a picture of your laptop you want to sell and list it on the app.
Meet the person interested in buying it and exchange your used laptop for their cash.
It really is as easy as that.
For more details check out my review of LetGo (which still operates under that name in some countries) and my review of OfferUp.
4. Facebook Marketplace
Facebook Marketplace is a great platform for selling stuff to locals. Unfortunately, a lot of people don’t even know it exist or are simply ignoring its potential.
To find your local Marketplace, look in the left-hand menu (near the top) of your Facebook page. Just click on the link and you’ll be taken to the page where you can see a list of ads for all kinds of things locals are buying and selling.
To add your listing, take a few pictures of your laptop, choose the correct category from the list of categories, give some detail about your device and set your price.
You’ll get a Facebook message from the interested buyer. If you both agree on everything, meet up in a local spot and exchange goods.
The good thing about using Facebook Marketplace is that you can share your ad page with friends so you can get more eyeballs on your ad. It’s a great way to sell your laptop faster.
5. Craigslist
Yes, the good old Craigslist is still one of the best ways to sell stuff locally.
All you need to do is post an ad on Craigslist and wait for potential buyers to contact you.
Here area few tips to help you sell your item faster.
- Create catchy title for your ad. You wanna stand out among tens of hundreds of other ads from people who are also trying to sell their stuff.
- Be descriptive: In the description of your ad, be sure to give as much info about your device as possible. What make and model it is, how old it is, its condition, etc.
- Add pictures: It’s a known fact that for sale ads with pictures sell much faster than ads with no picture.
So make sure you include a few pictures from all angles.
- Reply to potential buyers: If you want to sell your laptop fast, you have to keep up. Keep an eye on your email and as soon as you get a question from a potential buyer, reply as quickly as possible.
- Be safe: We’ve all heard of crazy stories about selling to craigslist users gone wrong. The best way to avoid issues, especially safety issues, is to meet up in a safe public space. In fact, in some places, the police departments have designated sections (sometimes it is the actual parking lot of the police station) for people to exchange goods for cash. So find one near you and meet the seller there.
Craigslist really is still a great way to sell used stuff for cash locally and fast. So if you want to get cash for your laptop fast, give it a try.
Best Place to Sell iMac (in Any Condition!)
6. Buyback Boss
Most people know Buyback Boss as one of the best places to sell used smartphones, but they do also buy back other devices.
If you have an iMac that is very old and/or is not in particularly great condition, you may want to try Buyback Boss.
The company says they buy iMacs in any condition. Now, you may not get a lot of money for a broken laptop that barely works, but you’ll get something out of it. Better than letting it go to waste in your basement!
To get started, fill out the form and a representative from the company will email you a custom quote within 8 hours.
If you accept the offer, they’ll send you a prepaid shipping label via email that you can print right away. Use the shipping label to ship your laptop to them for free.
Once the company gets your item in the mail, you get paid. You can choose to be paid via PayPal or Check.
One thing I really like about this site is that they have a Price Lock guarantee where once they give the offer, it stands for 14 days no matter what. If you’ve sold used electronics before, you probably know how much the market prices fluctuate day to day based on trends, new models, updates, etc. So this is a great way to make sure you do get the highest price for your laptop.
When you visit the site, scroll down to the bottom and click on the “Sell iMac” button under the “Sell Other Devices” section.
Best Site to Sell Gaming Laptops
7. Gadget Salvation
This is a great site to not only sell your old laptop for cash but also a great site to sell any kind of gadgets from Cameras and Smartphone to Desktops, Tablets, Macs, Gaming Consoles and even Smart Watches.
To get cash for your laptop, follow these steps:
Step 1: On their “Sell” page choose your device and brand from the list and answer a few questions about the condition of your gadget to see how much they’ll pay for it.
Step 2: Once you fill out the form you’ll be given a pre-paid shipping label which you can use to ship your laptop to them (drop the box at any UPS store).
Step 3: Once they receive your laptop (or any other gadget) they’ll test it and pay you (your choice of Check, PayPal, Venmo or Bank Transfer) within 48 business hours.
What I particularly like about Gadget Salvation is that there are no commitments. If you change your mind at any time, you can cancel the whole thing and they will send your device back to you free of charge.
Best Site to Sell Mac Books
8. Mac Me an Offer
As the name suggests, this site focuses on buying back Apple products. You can sell Mac laptops, iPhones, iMacs, iPads and even Apple accessories.
Simply select your Apple product from their “Mac Estimator” to get an estimate (on how much they’ll pay you for your device). Then fill out the seller form and the company will send you a formal offer via email within one business day.
Once you accept the offer, the company will provide documentation, instructions and a pre-paid shipping label.
You are paid within 3 business days of delivery. You can choose to be paid via PayPal or Check.
Best Site to Sell Chromebook Laptops
9. Swappa
This one is a little different than the other ones. This is not a buy-back site where you sell your laptop to the site directly, instead, you list your device on their platform and when it sells you get paid.
You can sell all kinds of electronics including laptops and desktops. If you have MacBook, Chromebook, Windows Laptop or any other brand of laptop, this is a great site to get cash for it.
From what I see, it seems like Google’s Chromebooks usually sell much faster than laptops from other brands.
Other Sites & Apps for Selling Used Laptops Online
There are also smaller and less-known sites that you can try. Some of these sites actually specialize in only buying and selling used laptops, so you may even be able to get a better deal.
- CashYourLaptop
- Decluttr
- SellBroke
- SellLaptopBack
- OfferUp
- GetCashForLaptop
- PayMoreStores
- QuickLaptopCash
- SellAGadget
- Nextworth
- SellUsedLaptopz

How Much is My Laptop Worth?
It depends on many factors, mainly the age of it. Electronics age very fast because companies constantly introduce newer versions. So, the older your laptop is the less money you are going to get for it, and vice versa.
For example, I just did a quick test for Acer Aspire 5253, and I got a quote for $51.91. I also got a $98.06 quote for an Apple MacBook 13-inch (Early 2008).
So, depending on how old it is and the condition it is in, you could expect anywhere from $20-$30 to $600-$800 or more. The beauty of using sites mentioned above is that with most of them you can get an instant quote, then you can decide whether or not you want to sell it for that price.
By the way, you can use GadgetValue to get a free electronic appraisal. Select your device, make and model and the site will give you an estimate of who much it is worth.
Final Thoughts
Obviously, the best place will be the one that allows you to get the most cash for your laptop without too much hassle. So you’ll need to compare the convenience versus the price offered by various sites.
A lot of people prefer Amazon because they trust the company and have been using it for years. Nonetheless, all the places listed above are great for selling old and used laptops. The good thing is that with most you can get a quote before you ship the device. Use that to get an idea of which one pays the most and go with them.
I would love to hear your thoughts on this. Have you ever used any of these sites and apps to sell your laptop? Would you prefer to sell your laptop for cash in person? Let me know in the comments below.
