I wanted to post pics of the Metra dash kit. I think that it is a worthwhile alternative to the Scosche (if you are willing to paint it or if you dont mind black). I got my 2006 DC Tacoma about a month ago and I had been researching changing the stereo for a long time. I had read that the AI kit was not that good and that the Scosche was better, but I never read anything about the Metra. I ordered the Scosche Single DIN kit and the Alpine9851 at the same time. I ordered the radio from Crutchfield and they sent me the Metra kit (for free!). I first mounted hte radio on the Scosche and it looked ok but I wasn’t crazy about the paint job or the fit of the radio in the opening. In particular the large “shelf” on the bottom of the radio between the radio and the pocket. Also, the paint didn’t reach all the way into the pocket (you can’t see it but it tells you that the paint job was rushed).

Since I had the Metra kit I decided to give it a try to see how it would fit. I am pleased with the look. I think that I will be painting it and keeping it. HTe radio dies not seem to be so recessed into the opening and the “shelf: is not as deep as it is in the Scosche (it’s hard to gauge form the picture becaue of the angle). I like the fact that the kit has two main parts; the radio itself is mounted with the 10 mm bolts and one extra screw and the second part attaches with the clips. The Metra kit even came with the the 4 clips that it uses. The Metra kit is part number 99-8214 and for sure you can get it at Crutchfield.

Ha ha ha ha,

I was thinking the same thing, but then again I wasn’t too fond of the pics I’ve seen of the Schosche kit either.

I don’t like the Scosche kit just because of the shelf. I don’t see why people get such big boners over it other than the fact it’s painted. I think once the Metra kit is painted it’ll look really nice. I’d love to see what it looks like in double-din.

I think that kit would look a lot better if there wasn’t a bezel around the headunit.

Both kits have that bezel. I’ve got the Scosche – color is close but not exact to stock. I really don’t like the huge pocket they put below the head unit on the Scosche – larger than the darn faceplate of my stereo. The “dimples” on the top are a nice added feature I guess – makes it look more like the OEM one.

I think the Scosche is the best kit for a normal CD player.

For a flip out TV the American International kit would be best.

Reason being the Scosche kit opening is too high and the TV would be like 2 inches from the roof!

The American International opening is more centered and looks normal for a TV.
