The Nebula HDR engine is a purpose-built local dimming algorithm that produces stunning highlights with unparalleled depth. Trained on an instruction set of more than 150 videos and over 2000 still photos, the algorithm can dynamically adjust the HDR lighting needed to minimize blooming around individual dimming zones by 25%.

The M16 features 319 heatsink fins, with each stack lined with ultra-thin copper fins as slim as 0.1mm. This allows for higher density and lower air resistance, with a total of 113,523 mm² of surface area. This all-copper construction continues to the full-width heatsink, which is double the size of a normal heatsink and covers the entire rear of the machine.

Liquid metal compound from Thermal Grizzly reduces CPU temperatures by up to 13°C compared to standard thermal paste. Applying it onto CPUs is delicate work, so ROG commissioned custom equipment to automate the process with mechanical precision, and designed a patented internal fence to contain the compound.

More LEDs mean more animation possibilities, and OMNI returns with a whole host of mini games, like the Slot Machine, Shoot’em Up and Whack-A-Mole. SSD in PCIe Gen4 Mode

All games and applications run incredibly fast on this laptop because it uses an SSD running in PCIe Gen4 mode. At the same time, the amount of user memory is up to 2 terabytes – more than enough to install an extensive game collection and many professional applications, as well as store a voluminous portfolio of creative works. The ROG Zephyrus M16 has been upgraded with dual channel DDR4-3200 memory for a powerful processor. Its high bandwidth and large volume (up to 48 gigabytes) are especially useful for multitasking when the user works in several applications at the same time.

Liquid Metal Thermal Interface

Thermal Grizzly’s Liquid Metal is a much more effective thermal interface than conventional thermal pastes, but this highly exotic material requires a delicate touch. To automate its application to the processor chip, the ROG team ordered special equipment. In addition, the CPU cooling block is designed to prevent liquid metal from leaking over time.

Self-cleaning system

Protecting heatsinks from contamination is a very important factor in successful heat dissipation, so ASUS engineers have developed a special solution: dust particles are quickly expelled from the laptop case through a specially designed tunnel, and do not settle on the heatsink fins. This improves cooling efficiency and, as a result, increases the life of the entire device.

Ultra-thin heatsink fins

Four heatsinks made of copper fins only 0.15mm thick are used to dissipate heat from hot components. Thanks to this, the total number of fins has been increased (up to 252, while the total heat dissipation area is 110,328 mm 2 ), and their resistance to airflow is significantly lower than conventional radiators, which have fins twice as thick.

Heatpipes

Six heatpipes installed in the laptop case cool not only the processor and video card, but also the elements of their power systems. This contributes to the reliable and stable operation of the entire device in the long term.

Arc Flow Fans

The thin design makes airflow difficult, so the laptop has special solutions to improve ventilation efficiency. Each Arc Flow fan features 84 blades that vary in thickness from base to tip to maximize airflow, while the wavy edges help reduce turbulence and hence noise. They are made of liquid crystal polymer, which makes them strong enough to spin at high speeds, despite being thin. The result is a 5% increase in airflow with the same noise level as previous generation fans. In addition, when the temperature of the CPU and GPU is below 50°C and the Silent mode is activated, the cooling system stops the fans, becoming completely silent.

User profiles

The cooling system automatically switches between several modes that differ in terms of performance and noise level. Turbo mode is the maximum speed of the laptop, for which the fans also rotate at maximum speed. In Performance mode, which is designed for gaming, component frequencies and fan speeds are reduced, while Silent mode is designed for work and entertainment applications. Mode parameters are configured by the user, and switching between them can also be done manually – using a keyboard shortcut.

Wi-Fi 6

This notebook is equipped with Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) wireless module, which provides high speed connection and improved performance when connecting a large number of client devices. In addition, the new Wi-Fi 6 standard introduces technologies that help save battery power (TWT) and increase the level of network connection security (WPA3 encryption).
