  • Is this version censored like the black US pressing is?

  • Sound: very good sound quality and volume, but quite a lot of background noise

  • great, heavyweight pressing that sounds great and packaging is gorgeous

  • Maybe my copy is a little off but it definitely doesn’t sound crisp

  • Surprised by the quality of this pressing! Dead silent, very dynamic and clear sound.

  • Edited 3 years ago

Pretty much no noise and most songs sound great, very good pressing

Real name Katherine Elizabeth Hudson. American songwriter and pop-rock singer. She sings a contralto. Her musical hobbies include Alanis Morissette, Cyndi Lauper and Freddie Mercury, as well as Pat Benatar and Joan Jett. She is best known for her hit song “I Kissed a Girl”.

She was born October 25, 1984 in Santa Barbara, California, the second child of an evangelical pastor. She has an older sister and a younger brother. She began taking dance lessons as a child. At the age of nine, she already sang in the family church and at the same time took voice lessons. She grew up only listening to gospel music as everything else was forbidden at home. It wasn’t until high school that she began to get seriously interested in music. At the age of fifteen, she turned her attention to rock music performed by musicians from Nashville and Tennessee. She also attended the nearby Western Academy of Music and briefly studied Italian opera. She recorded a demo tape that was heavily influenced by country music and was subsequently signed to the Christian label Red Hill. In 2001, she released her debut rock album simply titled “Katy Hudson”. At the time, she performed under the name Kathy Hudson. Because she identified too strongly with actress Kate Hudson, she decided to change her last name to Perry, her mother’s maiden name. Because of all this, she decided to drop out of school and focus solely on singing. Two years later, she left the family home for Los Angeles, where she teamed up with Glen Ballard and signed with Island. She planned to release an album in 2005, but the release did not materialize. She posted some of the songs on her website, and one recording – “Simple” – got into the soundtrack for the film “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants”.

Despite having signed with Columbia a year earlier – who didn’t believe the young artist could succeed – she decided not to finish the album, even though Perry had already spent a lot of time on it. In search of a new label, she began to collaborate with the independent company Taxi Music. In 2006, she appeared in music videos for P.O.D., Carbon Leaf and Gym Class Heroes. Her performances caught the attention of Virgin Records and finally Capitol Music Group. At the beginning of the next year, she decided to sign a contract with the latter for a longer period. Now, with a vengeance, she could focus on new material. The breakthrough came in November when “Ur So Gay” was released as a single. No one imagined that the record would be such an impressive success. Even Madonna admired him.

In the meantime, at the beginning of May 2008, Perry presented another single from the prepared album. It was the song “I Kissed a Girl”. The song immediately rose to the top of the Billboard 100 chart and remained at number one for another seven weeks. In addition, the song took the top lines of the charts in more than thirty countries.

In the middle of June 2008 the artist released her first LP on a regular label. The release was titled “One of the Boys”. The album quickly went platinum. Meanwhile, the third single from the album was “Hot N Cold”, which, like the two above, sold well around the world.

In December 2008, Katie apologized to British singer Lily Allen for calling herself “a skinnier version of her”. Allen stated on the radio that Perry was just an American copy of her that the record company needed to find in order to boost sales figures.

Early the next year, she began a promotional tour of Europe called the Hello Katy Tour. Meanwhile, “I Kissed a Girl” earned her a Grammy nomination for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. She also won the BRIT Awards for Best International Female Artist. In 2008, she was nominated in five categories at the MTV Video Music Awards, including Best New Artist and Best Female Video, but ultimately lost to Britney Spears. However, she received a statuette for best new role. By February 2009both “I Kissed a Girl” and “Hot N Cold” have already been certified triple platinum for sales exceeding 3 million copies worldwide.

In May 2009, she opened the annual Life Ball in Vienna, an event that raises funds for the fight against AIDS. Five months later, she performed two new songs – “Brick By Brick” and a cover version of Fountains of Wayne’s “Hackensack” – as part of the MTV Unplugged series. The album was released in November.

In October 2009 she began work on her second album. In an interview, she confirmed that the material is definitely going in the pop direction and should be something between the work of the Cardigans and Madonna in the early 80s.
