What’s in the Museum…1923 Hotpoint Automatic Range

Posted on March 11, 2011 by Dayphoto

You may be wondering what is so unusual about an electric range. Perhaps because this is one of the earliest electric ranges to hit the kitchen appliance market. Prior to the availability of such time-saving appliances, all cooking was done over a wood stove.  When I think of what must have been required just to make a hot cup of coffee in those days, I have to admire the stamina of our pioneer woman.  With the appearance of electric stoves, they must have thought it was the greatest labor-saving device ever invented, though it might have been a toss-up between the stove and the electric washer.

The first electric cook stove was produced in 1910 by The Hughes Company, later to be called the Edison Electric Company.  Up until 1922, all electric ranges were in black, brown or both.  That year, Edison Electric received an order from a North Carolina utility executive for an all-white, porcelain stove. Rather than admit that such a stove was not being produced, Edison quote an exorbitantly high price to discourage him, only to receive the order anyway.  Edison felt obligated to develop a new annealing process to apply the white enamel on the entire stove.  Thus it was that 1923 Hotpoint models included all-white ranges with nickel trim on the door, and thereafter, white became widely accepted in the industry for ranges, dominating until the 1960’s.

In 1931, the Edison Electric Appliance Company became the Edison General Electric Company, and in 1934 General Electric and Hotpoint brand production was integrated, retaining both brand names.

About Dayphoto

My name is Linda Brown. I live on a farm on the western slope of Colorado, in the high mountain desert. I’ve lived here all my life, hailing back four generations on my father’s side. Today I blog about our farm, the everyday activities that keep the farm going. I also write about my thoughts and dreams and goals. On Friday’s I always write about TLC Cai-Cai. Our sweet kitty who helps keep the farm safe.
The lovely thing about blogging it opens the world up for all of us to reach out and meet people from many different cultures and different ways of life. You can find me every day (but Saturday) at http://coloradofarmlife.wordpress.com/

In this section of the site you can find tariffs that will help you correctly calculate your electricity costs.

The procedure for the application by the guaranteeing supplier of tariffs for electricity for the population and categories of consumers equated to it is regulated by clause 5 of the Basic Provisions for the Functioning of Retail Electricity Markets, approved by Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation of May 4, 2012 N 442 “On the functioning of retail electricity markets, full and (or) partial restriction of the mode of consumption of electrical energy”:

– the supply of electrical energy (capacity) to the population and categories of consumers equated to it is carried out at regulated prices (tariffs) established by the executive authority of the constituent entity of the Russian Federation in the field of state regulation of tariffs.

In accordance with paragraph 70 of the Fundamentals of Pricing in the Field of Regulated Prices (Tariffs) in the Electric Power Industry, approved by Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation of December 29, 2011 N 1178 “On Pricing in the Field of Regulated Prices (Tariffs) in the Electric Power Industry”, regulated prices (tariffs) for deliveries of electrical energy to the population and categories of consumers equated to it are established by the regulatory body simultaneously in 2 options:

– one-part price (tariff), including the cost of supplying 1 kilowatt-hour of electrical energy, taking into account the cost of power;

– one-rate price (tariff) differentiated by 2 and 3 zones of the day, including the cost of supplying 1 kilowatt-hour of electrical energy, taking into account the cost of power.

Tariff zone intervals per day (by months of a calendar year) are approved by the Federal Antimonopoly Service.

The choice of the price (tariff) option is made by the consumer by sending a written notification to the guaranteeing supplier (energy sales, energy supply organization) from the date specified in the notification, but not earlier than the date of commissioning of the relevant metering devices that allow obtaining data on the consumption of electrical energy by day zones (when choosing a one-rate price (tariff) differentiated by 2 and 3 zones of the day).

Electricity tariffs for the population and consumers equated to the population in the Moscow Region for 2023 are established by the Order of the Committee for Prices and Tariffs of the Moscow Region dated November 20, 2022 No. 213-R. Electric energy (capacity), with the exception of the sale of electrical energy (capacity) to the population and categories of consumers equated to it, is sold by guaranteeing suppliers at unregulated prices within the marginal levels of unregulated prices.
