Govee RGBIC LED Neon Rope Lights Review
I own plenty of lights in my one-bedroom apartment, but nothing like the Govee Neon Rope Lights
(available at Amazon)
. Until recently, I thought smart light strips weren’t my style, but I do love some good mood lighting. This is more than your average light strip—it’s like a piece of art. The 10-foot flexible rope twists into almost any design to hang on your wall and displays millions of colors, creating a series of moving neon lights that blink, shimmer, and dance.
Out of all the lights I have—track lighting, an oversized floor lamp, an Ikea table lamp, and diffusers that cycle through a rainbow of options— the Govee Neon Rope Light is a favorite. Here’s why.
LED light strips vs. rope lights: What’s the difference?

Reviewed / Rachel Murphy
The LIFX Lightstrip Color Zones, 40-inch, pictured, are the best smart light strips you can buy.
When it comes to smart lights, light strips and rope lights are two popular options that, while similar, have several differences. For starters, light strips have a lower profile than rope lights. Strip lights are thin, usually less than 1/4-inch in thickness, and stick to flat surfaces by peeling off the adhesive backing. It can be tricky to maneuver certain light strips around corners and edges (the process is similar to prepping baseboards with painter’s tape).
Rope lights are made up of a thick tube, typically up to 3/8-inches in diameter, where the lights are housed. Since the light fills the entire tube, and not just a certain part (like the top of a light strip), it can be easier to install around corners and edges. Both smart light strips and smart rope lights typically support millions of color options, including tunable whites, offer fun features, and work with smart assistants like Alexa and Google Assistant.

Before you install the Govee Neon Rope Lights, map out your design on the floor.
Made of silicone, the Govee Neon Rope Light is flexible and easy to bend into a variety of designs. The construction of the rope light feels strong and durable, especially when compared to Govee’s smart light strips, which have a flimsy feel.
I hung the lights on one of my empty living room walls, which measures 8-feet by 4-feet. I tried multiple designs—spirals, shapes, bubble letters—finally landing on a wave design that takes up most of my empty wall space. The installation itself wasn’t difficult, but it did require some intuitiveness on my end since the included paper instructions only listed four barebones steps.
The lights come with an adhesive backing that peels off, but it also includes several small brackets and nails to further secure the light strip into the wall. This part of the installation wasn’t as clearly spelled out to me in the instructions as it could’ve been, but I was able to figure it out after a few minutes. I also found it a bit tricky to hang the lights by myself due to the size of the cord, so I recommend having a second set of hands to help.

Setting up the Govee Neon Rope Lights is a fairly straightforward process, even if the included instructions weren’t as helpful as they could’ve been.
Thanks to the durability of the rope lights, you could easily move the smart lights elsewhere in your home without damaging the light at all, which isn’t always the case with adhesive light strips. The rope’s flexibility makes it easy to bend around corners and rounded edges, too.
One bummer, for me, is that the rope light isn’t great for spelling words, which I was keen on trying. You can make a big bubble letter as a way to monogram your bedroom or home office, but creating a word design with these lights isn’t possible. But for a shape or abstract design, the Govee Neon Rope Lights are a creative way to show your true colors at home. The lights can also be used to outline a piece of art or object hanging on your wall to draw attention to something specific or create a focal point in the room.

Another cool feature of the Govee Neon Rope Lights is that you can create a new color scheme and save it to your profile to use in the future. The brightness and motion of the rope light can also be adjusted in the Govee app, putting you in control of these artful lights.
I love having the light as part of my daily routine, and it livens up my space when I have friends over for game night.
I love the way the lights can be tuned to any color to match my mood or the activity I’m doing. I found myself setting the light to the sunrise setting in the morning, a more energetic mixture of greens and pinks during my workday, and a soft yellow or blue glow in the evening to keep my space calm. I love having the light as part of my daily routine, and it livens up my space when I have friends over for a game night.
The rope lights also have a built-in mic that, when in Music Sync mode, can display lighting patterns to the beat of a song, movie, or any noise happening, making them a fun way to color up apartments, dorms, game rooms, home office, and more. The lights also support scheduling and timer features and work for remote control from anywhere.
You can control the lights by voice with Alexa and Google Assistant

You can also use smart assistants Alexa and Google Assistant to turn the lights on/off, change the color, dim the brightness, and more.
For those times when you can’t find your phone (or don’t want to get off the couch to go find it), you can use smart assistants like Alexa and Google Assistant to control the Govee Neon Rope Lights using a compatible smart speaker or smart display. To connect the lights with Alexa, enable the Govee Home skill in the Alexa app. To connect the lights with Google Assistant, add the lights in the Google Home app. You’ll be all set for hands-free control over the color, brightness, power, and presets.

What we don’t like
The rope light is too short and can’t be extended
This is less of a gripe and more of a realization in hindsight. The strip I tried is 10-feet long, which I assumed would be too long and take up way too much space on my wall. I was wrong. I love the way it looks on my apartment wall so much that I wish I had gone for the bigger size. Once I started shaping the rope light to create designs, the length went a lot faster than I thought it would. Unfortunately, you can’t extend the length of the rope light like you can with some light strips. If you need a longer length, check out the Govee 16.4-foot Neon Rope Light.
Should you buy it?
Yes, the Govee Neon Rope Lights are a fun addition to any room.

It’s easy to install and makes my days working from home more joyful and evenings reading or watching TV more enjoyable. Overview: The Govee RGBIC Neon Rope Light (H61A3AD1) is a flexible 13.12-foot LED light strip that can be bent into different shapes to create dynamic lighting and color for your space or room. Govee’s RGBIC technology lets you choose multiple colors simultaneously, and up to 16 million colors overall. The Rope Light features a smooth translucent jacket that softens the LED light output and allows the light to glow like neon. It connects to your home network (2.4 GHz) so you can control it through the Govee Home app, and with voice commands via Alexa and Google Assistant.
Controls: The RGBIC Neon Rope Light has an in-line control box with buttons that let you turn the light on or off, cycle through 9 preset colors, turn on/off music mode, and cycle through 6 brightness levels. When you connect the light to your 2.4 GHz home Wi-Fi network, you can control the light with your smartphone, tablet, or computer. Water Resistant: The Rope Light is rated IP67 for water resistance, which allows you to install the light in wet areas, including outdoors. The attached Control Box and included AC adapter, however, are not water-resistant, so you should use caution where the light is installed.

Why selecting your headphones is important
SpeakerCompare tailors your listening experience to the exact headphones you have, so that what you hear is comparable to auditioning speakers side-by-side in person. Knowing which model headphones you’re using lets us remove any sonic coloring from your experience.
Two different listening modes
In an actual listening room, you’d find that some speakers play louder than others when fed the same amount of power. In equal power mode, you’ll hear these differences in loudness as they naturally occur between speakers.
In equal volume mode, we’ve made the loudness of each speaker about the same. This gives you a more direct comparison of subtle voicing differences between speakers.
Nothing beats listening to speakers in your space
SpeakerCompare gives you a sense of the sonic differences. But performance in the real world is affected by the acoustics of your car or home, your choice of amplification, and your source material. We still believe that the gold standard for auditioning speakers is hearing them in your own environment — that’s why we offer a 60-day money-back guarantee.

What is the difference between LED strips and LED strips?
Home » Professional LED Strip Blog » What is the difference between LED strip and LED strip?
Nowadays, more and more people use LED lights for home, hotels, shopping malls, offices, etc.
LED strip lights and LED rope lights are the two most commonly used lighting materials.
In this article we will check how they differ.
1. What is LED strip and LED strip?
LED strips
LED strip is made from SMD LEDs, PCBs, resistors, 3M tape, wires, and sometimes with ICs. It comes with a flat, flexible, long 3M tape on the back. Easy for lighting. You can check the attached photo.
LED Rope Lights
LED Rope Light is made from SMD or DIP LEDs, wires and some plastic materials such as PVC. It comes in round or square shape. The tube material is clean and transparent. This allows light to escape from the material. It is usually used for decoration.
2. What are the main differences between LED strips and LED strips?
They have many differences that we can illustrate in terms of structure, effect, use cases.
-
Light source
Both LED luminaires use an LED as the light source.
LED rope lights use SMD, DIP LED, and can also use incandescent bulbs as light sources.
SMD LED is most often used in LED strips. They are many kinds of SMD LED that can be used for LED strips. SMD3528, SMD2835, SMD5050, SMD2216, SMD5630, SMD3014 etc.
And now LED strip has new technology, it can be produced by COB process. There are many COB strip lights on the market.
-
Input voltage
LED rope lights usually use AC220V, AC110V. It also has DC12V and DC24V but less choice.
LED strips most often use DC12V, DC24V. It also has AC220V, AC110V. This is used in various applications.
-
Size
The rope light is round. Usually the diameter is 1-3cm. It can better protect the LED light when using the rope light outdoor.
LED strip size will vary. The most important dimension is the PCB width. LED strips come in many sizes. Width from 3mm to 40mm, 50mm. It can match many different led aluminum profiles.
-
Mounting and installation
There is 3M tape on the back of the LED strips. These 3M adhesives can adhere to most surfaces and stay there for a long time.
LED rope lights do not have 3M tape back. They use mounting clips or nylon ties to secure it to another surface.
For the light cord, you can choose colors such as 3000k, 4000k, 5000k, 6000k, white, red, green, blue, amber, yellow, etc. And you can use the RGB color change light cord.
LED strip light can offer more color features than rope light. Not only the color mentioned above, but also RGBW, RGBCCT, MAGIC COLOR CHANGE, CCT.
-
Costs
Since the LED rope light is used in decoration the most, the price is not high.
LED strip has more functions, this use elsewhere has a different request. Price from 0.5 USD per meter to 10 USD per meter. So the price range is huge.
-
Light quality
Different LED suppliers offer different levels of quality. No matter LED light or LED strip, you need to compare CRI, brightness, CCT, packaging, etc.
-
Beam Angle
Because the shape of the light beam is 360 degrees, the beam angle of the light beam is 360 degrees. It’s better for decoration for Christmas lighting.
Most LED strips have a beam angle of only 120 degrees. To create 360-degree lighting with strip lights, you need to install round lighting.
-
Brightness
Low light LED rope lights are unreliable for practical applications. They cannot serve as a primary light source and cannot be used for activities that require sufficient brightness.
Tape lights come in many varieties. We have 30leds/m, 60leds/m, 120leds/m, 240leds/m etc.
The bigger the quality of the LED in the PCB, the bigger the brightness. Strip lights with 5050 chips emit brighter light than those with 3528 chips. You can also adjust their brightness according to your needs.
-
IP Rating
An LED’s IP rating measures its resistance to water and objects such as dust and dirt.
Tape lights usually have different IP ratings so you can use them in places that are exposed to water such as bathrooms, pools, kitchens and outdoors. There are various ways to waterproof strip lighting. Light strip waterproof levels such as IP20, IP33, IP55, IP65, IP67, IP68.
Rope LED lights are IP65 rated, which also makes them splash water resistant. You can also use them both indoors and outdoors.
-
Housing material
The rope light is made by extrusion. PVC is a cheap material that is most often used to make a rope light.
LED strips use a variety of body materials, such as silicone adhesive, epoxy adhesive, polyurethane adhesive. And it uses various shell production processes. For example, glue drop on the surface, waterproof tube, extrusion process.
-
Flexibility
Rope lanterns, due to the large PVC material around, do not work well at large bending angles. Inside there is a wiring that can be damaged if strongly bent.
Strip lights are more flexible and can be bent more than 90 degrees without breaking. You can even attach them to tight 90 degree turns, like wall corners. And some of them can be used for promotional emails.
When using the DC input, it can only travel about 20 meters before additional power is needed. Rope lights can operate over 80 meters when used with AC input.
Tape lights usually have an input voltage of 12V or 24V DC. The DC version of the strip lights can only be operated for a certain length before a voltage drop occurs. The standard length is 5m on a reel for most 12V/24V DC tapes.
LED rope lights consume about 5 watts per meter.
LED strips consume between 1 and 30 watts per meter, depending on the requirements of your project.
If the power of LED strips is less than 20 W/m, they do not need heatsinks.
Many lighting projects use LED strip with aluminum profile, it doesn’t matter for LED strip protection or heat dissipation. He has good housing.
If you are using more than 20W/m LED strip, I suggest you better use heatsinks.
LED strip has less power, it does not need heatsinks.
-
Life
The LED has an impressively long service life. LED light can last tens of thousands of hours, much longer than incandescent bulbs. You don’t have to worry about the lifetime of LED lights.
3. Best Places to Use
Both strip light and rope light have countless applications. The choice between them depends on the function and where it is used. Here are the ideal places to install both lights.

Landscape Accent
Rope lights can be used outdoors. It will perfectly emphasize your landscape or garden. They can highlight the details of the landscape at night, making them attractive.
Pool fences
You can use the DC24V rope lamp for swimming pools. 24V DC rope lights are safe and they can spice up your pool if you wrap them around a fence.
Wrap around tree trunks in backyard
LED Rope Lights can also act as surround lights on tree trunks. Backyard trees adorned with rope lanterns make them feel more alive and often create a sense of celebration.
3.2 LED strips
There are many ways to get creative with LED strips. You can use them as both decorative lights and practical lights.
Here are some of the best places you can install them.

And in the dark, benches, ottomans, tables on the lawn and even a fountain will turn on. There will be a lot of light in the night square!
The square itself will be turned into a walking area with lawns, flower beds, garden sofas and lanterns. From here you can see a beautiful view of the neighboring Church of Michael the Archangel on the Maiden’s Field.
In addition, there will be a children’s and sports grounds, a street library, a trampoline, exercise equipment and a dog walking area.
Presnensky children’s park
This park will be perhaps the most unusual. A quiet green patch of 2.8 hectares is located between Druzhinnikovskaya Street, Kapranova Lane, Glubokoy Lane and the Government House of the Russian Federation. The park has been operating since the 1930s. It was repaired several times, the playground was changed, decorated with figures of heroes of famous fairy tales and cartoons.
