Gas Range vs. Electric Range
When choosing between a gas or electric range, consider your kitchen and cooking needs. Gas ranges require a gas hook-up, so you’ll need to install a gas line if you don’t have an existing one. Cooking with gas lets you have precise temperature control with each burner, so a gas stove may be a good choice if you tend to use the cooktop a lot. Electric ranges offer consistent heat in the oven, making them great for baking and roasting.
Double Oven Gas Range vs. Single Oven Gas Range
A single oven gas stove is usually sufficient for most households, but if you find yourself needing extra oven capacity or need to cook multiple dishes at once using different temperatures, a double oven gas range may be a better fit for you.
Picking the Gas Stove That’s Right for Your Kitchen
As you look for a gas range, think about the ideal place for a stove in your kitchen layout. Does your kitchen have an island? How are your countertops arranged? Consider whether a slide-in or freestanding range works best based on your kitchen configuration and style.
Gas Range FAQs
What’s the difference between a stove and range?
Stove and range both refer to a single appliance that is a combination of a cooktop and an oven, and the terms are used interchangeably.
Does a gas range need to be vented?
Yes, gas ranges need to have proper exhaust ventilation to prevent the build-up of cooking fumes, smoke and other impurities. Find more details in your model’s installation instructions.
How do you locate a gas line for a range?
Usually, a gas line will be a ½-inch pipe with a shut-off valve that comes through a wall in the kitchen, but make sure to consult a certified technician. Learn more about how to install a gas range.

Gas prices in Europe may turn negative in the summer of 2023
Natural gas prices in Europe may turn negative for a short time. That is, sellers will pay extra to buyers. According to some market participants, this may happen in the very near future
Underground gas storage facility of RWE Gas Storage CZ in the Czech Republic
(Photo: MARTIN DIVISEK / EPA / TASS)
Top managers of the largest commodity market operators admitted that prices for short-term gas contracts in Europe could turn negative for a while this summer, Bloomberg writes, citing participants in the annual E-World energy fair in Essen, Germany. Gas prices could go below zero in the summer if sluggish demand doesn’t equal a growing gas supply glut.
An event where gas producers actually pay consumers to take gas away from them is becoming increasingly likely as prices approach pre-crisis levels, the agency said. This week, gas prices on the stock exchange in Europe fell below $300 per thousand cubic meters for the first time in two years. At auction on May 26, the price of June futures at the TTF hub in the Netherlands fell by 0.3% to €25.38 per 1 MWh, or about $286 per 1,000 cubic meters. m, taking into account the current exchange rate on the international Forex market.
In some regional gas markets in Europe, prices could turn negative during hours or days with high renewable energy production, Peder Bjorland, vice president of gas trading and optimization at Norwegian oil company Equinor, told the agency. However, he warned that negative prices are still far away and “a lot of things can happen along the way.”
adv.rbc.ru
György Varga, chief executive officer of the Swiss trading company MET International, also admits that the price of gas in Europe will fall below €10 per MWh (about $113 per thousand cubic meters). “In the short term, within a few days, if the gas storages are full, we can see prices below €10,” he said, stressing that the bottleneck in the form of a lack of storage space for raw materials will be the reason.
Negative gas prices were already observed in October 2006 in the UK. Then intraday prices briefly fell below zero after deliveries began in warm weather through the new Langeled pipeline and gas storage facilities were almost full. Similar factors are at work now: gas prices are falling due to rapid replenishment of reserves, a sharp drop in consumption, as well as an increase in renewable energy generation (windmills and solar energy). The probability of reaching zero prices is higher in those markets that have limited gas storage areas.
In Europe, the season for pumping gas into underground storage continues, while gas reserves are now much higher than a year earlier. According to Gas Infrastructure Europe, as of May 23, the reserves in the region’s storage facilities amounted to 66.48% of the total load, a year earlier they did not exceed 44%. Some experts expect gas storage facilities in Europe to be full as early as August, long before the start of the heating season, the agency writes. At the same time, lower prices have not yet revived industrial demand, as some buyers are postponing gas purchases until market prices fall further.
For gas prices to turn negative in the near term, many factors must coincide. Gas prices could skyrocket due to interruptions in LNG supplies to Europe or the risk of a complete shutdown of supplies through Russian pipelines. In addition, demand may rise from the industry. If none of the bullish factors materialize, and if additional storage or gas tankers are not available for storage, prices could fall within a few days, Varga said.
“If things continue like this, gas storage will fill up quite early in the summer, by September or October, and then prices will depend on how early winter comes,” says a top MET executive.
Gas tariffs and calculation methods. Where, when and where to pay
Where do the prices that we see every month on gas receipts come from? When, where and how is it more convenient to pay for it? We will discuss these issues in the article.
Gas tariffs in Russia are conditionally divided into categories and price zones.
To establish the category, it is important who uses the gas: residents of private houses and apartments where gas is supplied, or industrial enterprises.
Price bands are set according to the principle of remoteness of a particular consumer from the region where gas is produced. The farther, the higher the rate.
Gas tariffs are set by regional authorities based on the all-Russian methodology. Tariffs change annually from July 1. Tariff growth cannot exceed the limit growth index determined by the Russian government.
What sanctions threaten non-payers
What sanctions threaten non-paying organizations
How to find out how much to pay for gas? Everything is simple. The monthly gas fee depends on the volume consumed. If a gas meter is not installed, then the consumption standard is applied for calculations. The calculation of payments when using a gas stove and a column will be tied to the number of living (officially registered) people. In the case of heating a house with a gas boiler, the standard is tied to the heated area. The further north the region, the higher the standard.
If a metering device is installed in an apartment or a private house, then the fee depends only on the spent cubes. The calculation in this case is very simple: from the current readings, you need to subtract the readings of the previous month, and multiply the difference by the tariff. Paying by meter is usually much more profitable.
Smart gas meter. What’s the benefit?
Gas meter installation
Paying gas by meter is more profitable
It is necessary to take readings and pay gas bills monthly until the 10th day following the settlement date. This is a requirement of the law.

owners of housing or a cooperative (when utility services are provided by a partnership or cooperative), there is no other deadline for paying utility bills.
