Question and Answer
How to put neoprene or rubber grips on the horizontal bar
Save it so you don’t lose it:
- How to put rubber grips on the horizontal bar
- How to put neoprene grips on the bar
Many owners of recently purchased horizontal bars face the same problem – they can’t pull the handles (they are also called grips) onto the crossbar. But without this miniature element, it will not be possible to fully engage in the projectile. The palms will scroll, slide, quickly become covered with calluses. What to do? How to cope with a seemingly impossible task and finally properly “dress” the horizontal bar. We know several ways! Choose which one you like best.
How to put on the horizontal bar rubber handles
There is usually no difficulty here. Rubber handles are easy to pull on the crossbar. If there is such a need, the elastic material can be slightly pulled with your fingers in different directions. As a rule, to put one rubber handle on a horizontal bar, a person with experience in this matter spends less than a minute. It is convenient that the projectile immediately becomes ready for use. You can start training.

How to put neoprene grips on the horizontal bar
But with neoprene grips, you will have to tinker a little longer. It is better not to try to force the handles on the horizontal bar – the porous, soft material will not slide along the metal pipe. There is a risk of tearing it and, thereby, ruining the grips. Use one of the proven methods.
Method #1. Dip the grips in warm water and rub the bar with soap, shampoo or dishwashing detergent (a couple of drops will suffice). With twisting movements, put the handle on the horizontal bar. Grips should move as if in a spiral. Fix their position on the section of the horizontal bar you need. Wait for the grips to dry well. Only after that it will be possible to start training.
Method #2. In a small container (an ordinary glass or ladle will do) prepare a warm soapy solution. You can use the tools already mentioned. Dip the grips in soapy water and hold there for a few seconds. After that, quickly treat the handles of the horizontal bar with soapy water and “wind” the grips onto the metal pipe according to the familiar pattern. It remains to wait for the moment when the handles become dry.
Method #3. Lubricate the inside of the grips with ordinary vegetable oil. To do this, use an auxiliary tool, such as a pencil. While dipping a pencil in oil, draw up the required amount of this “lubricating fluid” and apply it to the inside of the pens. And again, with spiral movements, we put the grips on the horizontal bar.
All these methods can also be used, if necessary, to put neoprene handles on other equipment (for example, uneven bars), exercise equipment, sports complexes, etc.

Change steering tips (fingers) correctly!
Just think! inveterate volgovody snorted – he decided to surprise us with the replacement of steering tips, but we changed them 100,500 times!
Just think! snorted the young owners of the Volga. You buy tips and drive them to the service, you will surprise how it is)))
Then watch and read, it will be interesting!
To the surprise of the owners of foreign cars – when the steering tips in the Volga are worn out, it is not necessary to change the traction, it is enough to change either the pin itself or the tip assembly (finger with the hinge body). For all this economy is pressed into the rods and easily changes in assembly (new-made non-separable tips do not count) and when worn, it is enough to add lubricant and tighten the screw plug
200.000 km. And how – read!
I pressed out the old tips (although some of them were suitable)
I took new steering rod joints
!
I’m taking it apart. 2 support washers were missing from the factory,
I take out the cotter pins and unscrew the screw plug, take out the finger, spring and support heel
there is no lubrication on two fingers at all. in general, in general. On the rest, something resembling lithol in an amount that you can’t smear a match properly.
Plus one spring broken.
Think it’s easy to assemble and lubricate? And don’t think, the quality of the processing of the fingers is such that scuffs from the cutter are visible, and you can’t turn the factory hinge by hand, which is why the steering wheel is heavy and the resource is low
Therefore, all the fingers are in a drill and I grind with sandpaper 180-240-320-400-600- 800
Already better
Further plugs. If you have corks of a new type from stamping – throw them away, put whole, classic
For stamped ones do not have any tightness
Next is the hinge body. It has a sharp top, and you can cut yourself with others. The case is hardened, so I grind with a small grinder and finish with a needle file
Now, now you can assemble
Just don’t forget that you can’t shove any lithol here! (the old-timers will be surprised). Do not believe me – open any classic repair book, for example 72 years and read in black and white
“VNII NP-242 grease with mobile desulphite additive or TsIATIM-201”
of the year). Accordingly, the assembled and lubricated hinge should not go 20-40 thousand, but at least 100.000-150.000 km, maybe up to 200.000. and more!
I use a modern lubricant – green castrol, I think it is not much worse.
And now tighten the screw plug until it stops. And then – for the extreme hinges, unscrew by 0.5-1 turn. and for medium ones – unscrew by 1-1.5 turns. This is exactly what should be done according to the native book GAZ-24 from 1972 years old.
After we press the hinges into rods and tips (I use a vice and a spacer pipe) and put on the caps. Again – factory with cracks or other damage – in the trash
The direction of pressing on the rods – along the rods, on the middle rod and the pendulum – it’s easier to look at how it was before)
Without a whole boot, there will not be a long service life. In general, the anthers now suck completely, so control their condition. And your steering fingers will walk for 200,000 km, and the owners of foreign cars will open their mouths in surprise))))
This is the Volga, men, this is the Volga, in those days they knew how to do things with a great resource!
And I.. and I assembled the entire steering linkage. Now the fingers move from pressing the little finger (!!!)
but there is one more stroke
in epoxy primer
and painting with black varnish
And summing up : if you do it at the service – at least the tips will fail and put them in order, no one will lubricate them for you at any service station, and they will put them without lubrication.
