There were only two heroes in the first part. Race car driver Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) raced through the streets with a breeze, and policeman Brian O’Connor (Paul Walker) caught him. Who is fast and who is furious is clear. Why the film became “Fast and the Furious” in Russia is also clear – such a name best reflected its spirit. And, as time has shown, in this regard, the localizers showed greater foresight than the authors themselves, who at that time did not yet imagine that the fun would stretch over many series, during which the personnel would change repeatedly.

Not the expected reversal happened soon: Dominic Toretto didn’t return in the sequel, so the “quick” from the film’s title needed to be removed. But a strong title change could confuse viewers. The authors got out by simply replacing the articles in the original title with deuces. Firstly, this directly indicated the sequel nature of the picture, and secondly, the words two (two) and too (too) are pronounced the same in English, so it turned out “Too fast, too furious” (as an option – “Too fast, too furious” or “Two fast, two furious”). Russian localizers, deciding not to be smart, used the name “Double afterburner”, but this topic did not receive much development. And this is understandable: the triquel could still be called a “triple” (which happened), and then?

It was decided to restart the franchise with a completely new setting and characters – in the third series, its hero was a 17-year-old American who ended up in the Japanese capital. At the same time, in order to somehow tie the title to the last two episodes, a deal was made with Vin Diesel for a cameo, and in the final he briefly appeared in the frame. In order to show that this is a reboot, but not a direct remake, the title was taken from the original, from the first part (only now other people were meant by “fast” and “furious”), and the explanatory title “Tokyo Drift” was added to this title. At that time, it was assumed that the main thing in the franchise is the whistling of the wind in the ears, and the characters are a secondary matter. But later the producers changed their minds: both turned out to be important.

But how does the title reflect the fact that this is both a reboot and a sequel? After all, it is necessary not to scare away new viewers with a serial number, and to give old fans a hint that we are talking about a sequel after all. Marketers again shook up the original name, throwing out the articles, and replaced the union “and” with the equivalent sign &. The meaning was the same “Fast and Furious”, but the grammatical nuances indicated a new adventure – which, in general, was required. Russian localization returned to minimalism: after Fast and Furious 4, nothing changed in the title, except for the numbers.

Playing with names, the authors of Fast and Furious got into a taste: the constant reversal of titles has become something of a f ranches. For the new series, many promotional materials used the name Fast & Furious 5 – essentially the title of the previous installment, but with an added five peeking out from behind the letters.
However, in the end, marketers moved away from using numbers, calling the picture simply “Fast Five”. Such a title was justified not only because it was the fifth film in the franchise, but also because the team of characters began to grow. To emphasize this, the five central characters were brought to the fore on the poster. A noticeable change in the name also symbolized plot changes: starting from this series, Fast and the Furious ceased to be just a “series about fast cars”, and shooting, explosions and other criminal delights were added to the chases.

The development of the sixth part began even before the release of the fifth. Since the plot of the new film was not an independent story, but a direct continuation of the fifth series, at first they didn’t really philosophize with the title either: Letty Ortiz, who was considered dead in the fourth film, was returned to the screen, and the increased park of characters was called the “Quick Six” (in different versions ads sometimes met Fast Six, then Fast 6).
But in the process, the concept changed: since viewers, discussing the new tape on the Internet, stubbornly called it “Fast and Furious 6”, the film studio decided not to confuse people and reformatted the title in accordance with their expectations. At the same time, director Justin Lin insisted that the figure again peek out because of the main title (as in the promotional materials for the fifth part) – in his opinion, such things are remembered, and fans are much more willing to go to the cinema if they feel that “this is a movie in spirit of the previous series.

With the seventh part, the reverse of the sixth happened: at first the film was positioned as The Fast and the Furious 7, but in the process half of the title fell off, and the Furious Seven remained (Furious Seven). The new director James Wan explained this by the fact that when creating the tape he was inspired by the film “Seven Samurai” (with the only difference being that in our time the samurai have moved from horses to cars), and therefore the word “seven” is important for him – it speaks of people , and not about the serial number of the picture.
Wang, who is used to creating his own franchises rather than continuing others, can be understood: he wanted the name to look as original as possible. But Universal Studios wanted the opposite: the title should clearly indicate that this is a sequel! Despite Wang’s mild protests, the film was eventually released with a “7” in the title.

Gradually, the public got used to the fact that the Fast and the Furious changes its English names like gloves, and was no longer surprised by any new ideas in this regard. This untied the hands of marketers. A variety of options were used in advertising the eighth part: there was a “Quick Eight”, and “Furious Eight”, and the full version – “Fast and Furious Eight”, and even a minimalistic F8 (interesting in that this abbreviation, read aloud, sounds like the English word fate, which has many meanings: “fate, fate, fate, lot, destiny” and even “death, death”) .

The studio did not want to repeat itself, therefore, for the first time in a long time, an original element was introduced into the name: the aforementioned word fate, which, on the one hand, left room for interpretation, and on the other, it sounded » eight. But “The Fate of the Furious” (or “The Fate of the Furious”, as you like), of course, did not get to the Russian rental, but the simple and understandable “Fast and the Furious 8” came to everyone.
Fast and Furious 9, Fast and Furious 10, Fast and Furious 11…
The authors of the franchise do their best to avoid the traditional “title + subtitle” scheme, but all these games with titles are just a pleasure for the audience. And since no one is thinking of ending the Fast and the Furious epic yet (after all, today it is Universal’s most profitable series), fans on the Internet are recklessly fantasizing about what the titles of future sequels and potential spin-offs could be.
Obviously, for recognition, they must contain the words fast, furious and some games with numbers. For example, for the tenth series, an excellent version of The Fast and the Fur10s is offered, where the letters in the word furious are replaced by visually similar numbers. It is quite possible that the studio will listen to the “voice of the people” and really do something similar – that the opinion of the audience matters, the producers have said more than once.
One can argue with whose approach to episode titles is better – American with its humor and variability, or Russian with its simplicity and clarity. But one thing is indisputable: if at one time the Russian localizers translated the title of the first tape literally, in the next years they and the audience would have to face a real adaptation hell, and the titles of the new series, apparently, would have resembled the titles of cheap detective stories from the 90s. Russian localized titles are often tasteless, but still there are indisputable successes in this field.
“Forsage” is a vivid confirmation of this.

Liverpool, having started rather calmly and unhurriedly, scored an early goal, realizing a standard position (corner). The ball was scored by van Dijk, who for some reason opposed short and puny Williams in the riding fight. The Manchester United players will not make their first shot on goal until the 39th minute of the first half, and in the next minute they will have to level the score, but Bissaki’s cross did not have time to close Pereira.
Ole Gunnar’s plan was quite understandable, playing strictly in defense to try to realize the few counterattacks that are sure to arise, given the way the home side played.
The Mancunians followed the starting plan, got involved in active pressing and generally did not allow anything to be created at their gates, but as is usually the case in football, everything changed the standard position. In addition to the goal scored, the Liverpool team sent a projectile into De Gea’s net twice more, but both goals were canceled by the referee after a VAR hint (in the first case, a violation was recorded on the goalkeeper, in the second, Mane was offside) – the fairness of the decisions does not raise questions. Not to say that the reshuffles have seriously improved the interaction of the players in the attack, but, nevertheless, the hosts were no longer so furiously running to the attack, thinking more and more about defense – as evidenced by the double replacement of Klopp with Fabinho entering the field and changing the scheme, where in Salah remained the only striker. The ending of the meeting was left for the guests, the percentage at that time reached an incredible 15/85%, but the finishing bulk did not bring dividends to Manchester United, which they eventually missed in the very last attack of the Liverpool players – the Egyptian striker of the Scousers took advantage of Alisson’s long pass.
Manchester United acted in their usual manner for games against teams from the “big six”, pressing close to the box and trying to operate on the counterattacks.
Given the composition of the guests and the number of injured, such a game plan had the right to exist, but against the current Liverpool it is not enough, as today’s meeting clearly showed. Mancunians need to be more active in the transfer market, finding a football player with high football intelligence, who will diversify the game in the center of the field and improve the quality of the last transfer, which is so lacking in the current squad.
Liverpool scored another victory, scalping the last of their undefeated opponents (not counting West Ham), and continued their hegemonic march towards the long-awaited title, which, apparently, will not lose even if someone slip in midfield in all remaining matches. Can’t stop singing an ode to Jurgen Klopp’s team, showing incredible results this year and so far proving that it is possible to win in all (virtually) matches, the only question is whether a limited number of players will have enough strength for the rest of the season, when important matches in the League begin Champions?
