Found a secret way to improve internet speed on your phone

High-speed Internet has long ceased to be considered a luxury and is now taken for granted by us. However, not always the Internet in the phone can be stable and depends on many factors, such as the network coverage area, its bandwidth and the speed of processing requests on the server. In this article, we will tell you how you can easily increase your connection speed, and at the same time secure surfing the Internet.

What is a DNS server? The principle of its operation can be compared with the phone book on your smartphone. Each site name corresponds to a certain digital combination on the server, and when you enter the name in the address bar of the browser, a computer or smartphone requests the site’s digital IP address through a special server that stores a database of these addresses.

In other words, a DNS server is an intermediary that associates website names with their digital addresses in order to transfer information to a computer or smartphone.

Switching to third-party servers can help you fix these errors, as well as access some previously blocked sites, reduce the response time between your device and the server, and therefore increase the connection speed.

There is also a special DNS over TLS protocol, this is the same DNS, but implemented with additional encryption that increases the security and privacy of the user by intercepting data.

How to select and change the DNS server on an Android phone

Starting from version 9.0, all Android smartphones have added the ability to manually configure the DNS server in the settings.

To set up a personal server:

  • go to “Settings” and select “Connections”;
  • scroll down and select “More settings”;
  • go to “Personal DNS server”;
  • check the box “Host name of the personal DNS server provider”;
  • Manually enter a new hostname from the list below and click Save.

List of some alternative DNS servers:

  • Google Public DNS. The free global service from Google is known all over the world, so it makes no sense to talk about its reliability. The server provides security and faster Internet connection, providing faster page loading due to data caching, and also provides improved protection against cyber attacks.

Hostname: dns.google

  • Quad 9 DNS. This is a free recursive service, which means that the server can look up other DNS servers to look up information. This server provides high performance and also blocks most malicious domains, increasing the security of Internet surfing.

Hostname: dns.quad9.net

  • Cloudflare. The service owns and manages a huge network of servers and uses them to speed up websites and protect them from malicious attacks such as DDoS. Many users who connect to this server note faster loading of pages on the Internet compared to standard servers.

Hostname: 1dot1dot1dot1.cloudflare-dns.com

  • AdGuard DNS. With the help of this service, in addition to increased protection of personal data, you can also get rid of ads on the pages of sites and games. Ads are cut out when DNS queries are processed, as a result, pages load faster without consuming smartphone resources.

Hostname: dns.adguard.com

After installing any server from the list, you need to enable and then disable Airplane Mode in your smartphone settings. This is to clear the DNS cache.

Setting an alternate DNS using the app

You can use a third-party app from the Play Store to find and set the best DNS server. One such free application is the Net Optimizer application, which scans the fastest and most secure DNS and connects in one click.

Download and install the Net Optimizer application from the Play Store.

Then go to the manual installation menu and press the “Scan DNS” button to find the optimal server.

Wait a few seconds for the server list to be displayed and click the “Use It” button next to the most preferred server. After that, we give the application permission to set up a VPN connection. Ready!

Conclusion

By using your ISP’s “default” DNS server, you can often run into intermittent internet connection problems. In addition, traffic passing through some servers can be vulnerable to attackers, so installing a personal DNS server can be a great solution for more stable page loading on the Internet, as well as increase the security of personal data.

A hotline has been launched in Russia to help visually impaired people use smartphones and tablets – category “Help”

Photo: vk. com/tiflocentr

A hotline called “Universal Mobile Assistant” has been launched in Russia, DISLIFE was informed by the organizers of the project – the Nizhny Novgorod Regional Center for the Rehabilitation of the Visually Impaired “Kamerata”. Qualified specialists will provide free consultations on non-visual (non-sighted) use of smartphones and tablets. Calls from all phones in Russia are free.

Hotline consultants are visually impaired. They, like no one else, are familiar with the features of the non-visual use of modern gadgets, so they will be able to provide complete and up-to-date information on how to choose and configure a smartphone for the blind and visually impaired, how it can help them in everyday life, which mobile applications are most accessible and functional how to make e-service more friendly for special users.

The new service can be useful not only for the blind, but also for social service professionals, developers of mobile applications, as well as anyone who would like to get acquainted with the wide possibilities of modern mobile technology that help visually impaired people become more independent.

The project was initiated by the Nizhny Novgorod Center for the Rehabilitation of the Visually Impaired “Kamerata”, whose employees are themselves blind people, so they try to solve the most pressing problems. The project has been implemented for the third year in partnership with MegaFon PJSC.

According to the head of the Universal Mobile Assistant consulting service Dmitry Bakhrov, today many blind people are mobile users, but among all people with visual impairments their share does not exceed 10%. “We hope that through our work, even more blind people will make everyday tasks easier with a regular smartphone. It is no coincidence that our service was launched on November 13, when events dedicated to the International Day of the Blind are held all over the world. Sighted people receive 80% of information about the world around them through vision. It is modern technologies, including smartphones, that help blind people overcome information barriers,” said Dmitry Bakhrov.

“Today, the most common smartphones are fully accessible to blind people thanks to screen (speech) access programs built into modern Android and iOS operating systems that voice the interface of most mobile applications. At the same time, in addition to well-known functions, such as searching for information on the Internet or paying utility bills, using a smartphone without visual control, you can mark objects or navigate in an unfamiliar place,” says Valentina Vatrak, Director of Corporate Development and Human Resources at MegaFon.

You can contact the Universal Mobile Assistant hotline for advice by calling: 8-800-550-46-80 from 08:00 to 20:00 Moscow time. Calls from all phones in Russia are free.

The “Universal Mobile Assistant” hotline was organized as part of the social project of the same name by the Nizhny Novgorod Regional Center for the Rehabilitation of the Visually Impaired “Camerata” in partnership with non-profit organizations from 30 regions of Russia and PJSC “MegaFon”.
