A gift for May 9, a gift for Victory Day
Victory Day is certainly the main and favorite holiday of all those who managed to stay alive during the Great Patriotic War. On this day, we congratulate all veterans whose courage cannot be overestimated. We are all grateful to them for giving the country and the whole world a unique chance to live in peace. Although we remember the glorious feat of veterans all year round, it is on May 9 that we honor the elderly.
Already on the eve of the Victory Day, we begin to think about what to present to our veterans. It should be noted right away that military-themed gifts should be avoided.
This is the Great War for us – only a page of history. People who went through this war will not experience joy from the memories of that time. Now many sites on the Internet actively recommend buying books and souvenirs on the topic of the front. We recommend avoiding such items if you do not want to see involuntary tears in the eyes of old people. Even a simple soft towel or a banal warm blanket will be much more appropriate.
Usually grandparents don’t need very expensive and chic things. Therefore, it is necessary to focus on items that will be useful to them in everyday life, which will be able to make life more comfortable.
Many veterans living today cherish the memory of their young years. They carefully preserve photographs of that time and love to show them to their loved ones. Involuntarily, the thought of such a gift as a photo album arises. But before buying, you should make sure that the photos are not already stored in albums. Otherwise, the gift will be useless.
Despite everything, giving money is not the best option available. Not all veterans are in need of funds. And such a gift is unlikely to be remembered. If, nevertheless, you decide to give something related to money, then you can limit yourself to a gift certificate for the purchase of household appliances. If the veteran – the recipient of the gift – is fond of something, then you can subscribe to some thematic publication.
A great gift is a souvenir collection of old films made in the Soviet era. Each of us noticed that most veterans love it when their favorite movie is shown on TV. You will give them the opportunity to watch and revise their favorite movie when they want it. But if there is no suitable player, you should think about buying it. Rest assured that even the simplest DVD player will be enough to watch your favorite movies.
Every veteran will be very happy with a tasty gift, such as a set of cookies or sweets. A great option – a useful thing for home or for personal use.
It can be a modern electric heating pad, a blanket, a lamp, a tea set, a set of good bed linen, tablecloths. A good option is an unusual houseplant.
When choosing a gift, you should not bypass the interests of the addressee. Try to remember exactly what the veteran told you. You may have heard about what old people lack. It could be something or a household appliance. For example, a great gift is a toaster or a sandwich maker. Many veterans still lead an active lifestyle. Grandmothers continue to cook or bake rich products. Such active people should be given at least a good cookbook. And best of all, some kind of device like a mini-bakery for bread. It is difficult for veterans to purchase such things on their own, and it is in your power to help them with this. Be sure the gift will be remembered for a long time.
An indispensable addition to the gift will be a beautiful flower bouquet. Flowers can be absolutely anything. It is also worth attaching a postcard and, in no case, one should not forget about the warm and sincere words of congratulations.
The congratulatory newspaper “Pravda” is an excellent gift for veterans. After all, veterans of the Great Patriotic War lived during the period when the newspaper was published officially. They will be very pleased when in the issue of 9 May 1945 years they will see their photo on the front page and the news in the spirit of “They won.” These truly indescribable feelings of joy and happiness, and they, and you yourself will remember forever. And the Pravda newspaper hanging in a frame on the wall is a living everyday reminder of the Great Victory.

According to Deputy Director of the Ugra Construction Department Galina Konovalova , as of May 1, 2019, 10 veterans in need of better living conditions live in the district, including 2 veterans of the Great Patriotic War.
“All veterans will be provided with housing in 2019 at the expense of funds from the federal budget and the budget of the Autonomous Okrug. Two participants in the Great Patriotic War have already entered into transactions for the acquisition of residential premises in the property, sale and purchase agreements are being registered with Rosreestr, ”Konovalova said.
More than 2,000 veterans live in Ugra today, including invalids and participants in the war, residents of besieged Leningrad, home front workers, widows, prisoners of concentration camps.
According to the raid “How are you, veteran?”, which took place in all municipalities of the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug, 840 residents of Yugra need repair of their living quarters. Disabled people and veterans of the Great Patriotic War need to replace household appliances, purchase expensive medicines, repair outbuildings, and improve the local area.
